As a public institution its students access both Universities Fund scholarships and HELB loans; apply at hef.co.ke once KUCCPS places you, and pay via the eCitizen paybill 222222. For scale among Nyanza institutions, Maseno publishes roughly KSh 122,000-306,000 a year depending on programme, but ask about YOUR course rather than assuming. Homa Bay living costs are well below Nairobi, and for students in southern Nyanza the university removes a relocation to Kisumu or beyond. KENYAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITY FUNDING: government-sponsored (KUCCPS-placed) students pay around KES 16,000 a year; self-sponsored students pay the full rate. THAT PLACEMENT DECISION MATTERS MORE THAN ANY OTHER COST FACTOR — it is roughly a tenfold difference. Government sponsorship is allocated through KUCCPS central placement, not by applying to the university directly. Funding runs through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) model and HELB loans; apply at hef.co.ke.
Admissions
- The national minimum for degree entry is a KCSE mean grade of C+, with cluster requirements set by KUCCPS.
- CHECK WHOSE NAME GOES ON YOUR CERTIFICATE. Tom Mboya has been listed by KUCCPS as 'Tom Mboya University College (Maseno University)' — constituent college status, under which Maseno awards the degrees — while its own site and other references now use 'Tom Mboya University' without the college designation, which would mean it awards its own. Confirm the current position when you apply.
