The Presbyterian University of East Africa
Established in 2007 by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), the university offers a range of certificate, diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs. It received its full charter from the Kenyan government in December 2020. PUEA focuses on providing holistic education rooted in Christian principles, with schools dedicated to Health Sciences, Education, Business and Social Sciences.

A ROUTE WORTH ASKING ABOUT THAT IS EASY TO MISS: the Presbyterian Church of East Africa is invested in TWO Kenyan institutions — it owns PUEA and holds a 20% stake in St Paul's University. If you are a PCEA member, ask about denominational bursaries, and ask whether any support is portable between the two, since comparing them may be worthwhile. As a private university PUEA accesses HELB loans only, not Universities Fund scholarships; confirm it is on the current HELB list. Kikuyu is roughly 20km northwest of Nairobi, so living costs sit below central Nairobi while keeping the city within reach.
