Tuition
- No Tharaka-specific fee figures could be verified, though it appears in a January 2026 listing of Kenyan universities offering courses from as little as KSh 5,000 per semester. Request the current structure from info@tharaka.ac.ke or +254 745 838 353. As a public university its students access both Universities Fund scholarships and HELB loans, means-tested across five household-income bands; apply at hef.co.ke once KUCCPS places you. Tharaka-Nithi living costs are well below Nairobi, and for students from this semi-arid county a local university removes the need to relocate entirely. KENYAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITY FUNDING: government-sponsored (KUCCPS-placed) students pay around KES 16,000 a year; self-sponsored students pay the full rate. That placement decision is roughly a tenfold difference in cost and is allocated through KUCCPS central placement, not by applying to the university directly. Funding runs through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) model and HELB loans at hef.co.ke. NOTE ITS SELF-SPONSORED CEILING OF KES 208,000 is among the highest of the Kenyan public universities recorded here — check which rate applies to you before assuming a public university is cheap.
