Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology
Established in 2009, NM-AIST is part of a network of Pan-African Institutes of Science and Technology across Sub-Saharan Africa. The institution is dedicated to training the next generation of African scientists and engineers to drive economic growth and sustainable development. It offers Master's and PhD programs across various fields of science, engineering, technology, and business, and is accredited by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).

Tuition
- READ THE ADMISSION NOTE BELOW FIRST — NM-AIST appears to admit no undergraduates. No fee figures could be verified; contact info@nm-aist.ac.tz. THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FINANCIAL QUESTION IS WHETHER PLACES ARE SCHOLARSHIP-FUNDED. Pan-African postgraduate science institutions of this type commonly operate funded studentships rather than conventional fee-paying admission — it is the pattern at AIMS Rwanda and Kenya-AIST — and if it holds here it would change the proposition entirely. Establish it before anything else. NOTE ALSO THAT HESLB IS RESTRICTED TO TANZANIAN CITIZENS: if NM-AIST's intake is largely non-Tanzanian, as a pan-African mandate implies, the national loan scheme is irrelevant to most of its students and external funding is the only route. The TZS 20,000 annual TCU quality assurance fee applies. Arusha living costs are moderate by Tanzanian standards but above rural areas.
Admissions
- THIS APPEARS TO BE A POSTGRADUATE-ONLY INSTITUTION. Its own site returns Masters and PhD provision with no undergraduate offering, consistent with how it is generally described. IF YOU ARE A SCHOOL LEAVER, THIS IS ALMOST CERTAINLY NOT OPEN TO YOU — confirm directly before planning around it. A bachelor's degree would be the entry point.
- Ask for the specific programme list. For a specialist postgraduate institute the programme list IS the proposition, and no titles were published beyond the broad fields of engineering, science and agriculture.
- If you are applying from francophone or lusophone Africa, establish what English language provision or requirement applies — a pan-African intake makes this a live question.
- Accepts international applicants
