Originally established in 1922 as a technical school, Makerere University became an independent national university in 1970. Today, it is organized into ten colleges offering programs to approximately 40,000 students, including a significant population of international students. The university is renowned for its research contributions in health, agriculture, and environmental sciences, collaborating with numerous global partners. Its main campus is situated on Makerere Hill in Kampala, with additional campuses and research stations across Uganda.
