University of Technology and Arts of Byumba
Founded in 2006, originally as Institut Polytechnique de Byumba (IPB), UTAB is a community-oriented private university headquartered in Byumba, Gicumbi District, with an extension in Gatsibo. It focuses on practical training, social transformation and rural development across three main faculties: Social Sciences, Education, and Agriculture and Renewable Energy.

Tuition
- Tuition: RWF 275,000 to 450,000 per year
- Among the lowest published tuition of any Rwandan institution. Undergraduate Day and Weekend modes are 375,000 RWF a year; Holiday mode is 275,000 RWF, the cheapest degree-level tuition recorded in this dataset. The Postgraduate Diploma in Education is 450,000 RWF on Weekend and Holiday modes. A registration fee of 39,500 RWF is paid annually AFTER admission, and a 10,000 RWF application fee applies only to Year 2 and Year 3 transfer applicants. Tuition is payable in three instalments and only digital payment is accepted (Bank of Kigali Urubuto Pay / MoMo *775*2# code TH89526388, or Cogebanque SchoolGEAR / MoMo *700*1# code UTAB). No differential rate is published for international students. The source fee document is undated — confirm it is current before quoting figures. Approximately RWF 450,000-650,000 per year. Scholarships are limited, mainly through district and local government partnerships. IUCEA accreditation matters if you may transfer or work across East Africa.
Admissions
- An Advanced Secondary School Certificate with at least two principal passes in core subjects related to the programme applied for.
- Registration is paid and completed AFTER being admitted, not at application, so there is no upfront cost for Year 1 applicants.
- Transfer applicants are admitted directly into Year 2 or Year 3 and additionally need a notarised diploma, notarised HEC diploma equivalence (foreign applicants), academic transcripts and a clearance or recommendation letter from the previous institution.
- PGDE applicants need a bachelor's degree at Second Class Lower Division or Satisfaction as a minimum, a secondary certificate with at least two principal passes in core subjects, an application letter addressed to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics and Research, a recommendation letter from the former university, and a CV.
